Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, accompanied by wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, Union Minister for Border Affairs Lt-Gen Ye Aung and wife, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, the commander of Eastern Command, the commander of Eastern Central Command and members, visited the Shwephonepwint Pagoda in Taunggyi this evening.First, the Senior General and party were welcomed by Patron of the pagoda board of trustees Wunna Kyawhtin Sithu Thray Sithu U Aung Ko Win and members. The Senior General and party viewed progress in repairing of the platform with collective contribution of families of the Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) and well-wishers, and flooring and laying of heat-resistant tiles and they were conducted round there by the patron and members of the pagoda board of trustees. The Senior General gave necessary instructions.Then, the Senior General and wife paid homage to the Buddha image at the pagoda, offered flowers, water and oil lights and paid homage to the pagoda by going clockwise. Up from the pagoda platform, they also viewed the sunset in Taunggyi. Cash donations were made and received by the pagoda board of trustees. In the visitors’ book, the Senior General wrote: “I am very glad and pleased to pay homage to the Shwephonepwint Pagoda after its all-round renovation. I wish all to participate in doing meritorious deeds for the propagation of Buddha Sasana as long as the world exists.”
