Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing received Special Envoy of the UN Secretary General on Myanmar Ms. Christine Schraner Burgener at the parlour of Bayintnaung Villa here this afternoon.
Also present at the call together with the Senior General were Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Mya Tun Oo and Lt-Gen Soe Htut of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army). The special envoy was accompanied by senior political officer Ms. Claudine Haenni.
The two sides discussed the Tatmadaw’s making of a ceasefire effective from 21 December 2018 for the first time in its history for the ethnic armed groups to be able to sign the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) following a statement saying that MNDAA,TNLA and AA in the northeastern part of the country offered to make peace after ceasefire, AA insurgents’ attacks on border police outposts in Rakhine State and their terrorist attacks on civilians by ignoring the statement, seizures of narcotic drugs in Rakhine State, the need for Bangladesh to have positive cooperation over the Bengali issue,the need to convince the international community of real situation,rendering of aid to displaced people from IDP camps in Kachin State,incidents that happened in Rakhine State in 2017, the establishment of a court of inquiry to counter international accusations in accord with the military laws, measures to expose the truth with firm evidence,Tatmadaw’s activities and Tatmadaw’s holding of press conferences monthly for the public knowledge.
