A nation will develop only if it can improve electricity, transport, communications and human resources. Electricity and water therefore should be valued and saved. Improving the education of children for human resource development means shaping a better future of the State, said Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing in meeting with officers and other ranks from Yangon Station and their families at the Thabin Hall of Zeyathiri Beikman at Yangon Command this afternoon.
Also present were the Senior General’s wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Admiral Tin Aung San, Commander-in-Chief (Air) General Maung Maung Kyaw, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) and Yangon Command Commander Maj-Gen Thet Pon.
Speaking on the occasion, the Senior General said the Tatmadaw is responsible for national defence so power and efficiency are required to shoulder defence duties. Power means the capability of individuals while efficiency means full use of necessary equipment. For the improvement of individual skills, it is necessary to study the subjects taught from basic military training courses and use them in practical field. Apart from duties assigned, training courses have been conducted for servicemen ranging from soldiers to junior and senior officers so that they can shoulder high-level duties. The basic military concept taught needs to be used in battlefield. Otherwise, they will face difficulties throughout their lives. If general staff, adjutant and quartermaster affairs are to be carried out correctly, their capability will improve. As today is the age of information technology, it is important that the education system provided to Tat-madawmen catch up with the advancement of information technology and Tatmadaw therefore is taking measures to increase the educational level of Tatmadawmen, he said, which is part of the Tatmadaw’s efforts to modernize the army.
Tatmadaw is also doing as possibly as it can to provide the families of Tatmadawmen with the access to quality education and job opportunities. Libraries have been set up, and furnished well in respective military units to help broaden the horizons of Tatmadawmen and their families. He urged them to read resourceful books regularly to expand their area of knowledge and insights. He also urged them to abstain from unhealthy habits. He also urged them to engage in subsistence farming so that there is self-sufficiency of wholesome foods such as vegetables, meat, fish and eggs and food expenditures can be reduced. He also urged them to keep a healthy balance between income and expenditures, and live a contented life without indulgence. Tatmadaw is fulfilling as much as it can the livelihood and accommodation needs of Tatmadawmen and their families.
The betterment of a country starts with self-improvement, he said. Tatmadaw is a part of the country, and as all the Tatmadawmen and families are the institution constituted by ethnic people across the country, Tatmadaw is a part of the people. There is therefore a need for Tatmadawmen to build their Tatmadaw reliable for their country and the people. Tatmadawmen and families have to live in unity and harmony with family and brotherly spirit without any bias.
