Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing received H.E. Mrs. Bidya Devi Bhandari, President of Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, at M Gallery by Sofitel Hotel here this afternoon.
Present at the meeting together with the Senior General were Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Mya Tun Oo and senior military officers of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief(Army). The Nepalese President was accompanied by Ambassador of Nepal to Myanmar Mr. Bhim Krishna Udas and officials.
At the meeting, the Nepalese President expressed pleasure to meet with the Senior General again and for the warm welcome accorded to her and the hospitality of Myanmar. She said the friendly relations between the two countries are improving, saying that the role of Tatmadaw is important in the country’s development drive. She expressed hope that the two armed forces will cement cooperation for the development apart from peacekeeping and security issues.
The Senior General said he is glad for the opportunity to meet with the President again. Following the Senior General’s goodwill visit to Nepal in 2017, leaders of the two countries have been exchanging goodwill visits, and they stand as symbol of the strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries,said the Senior General. He said, at present brighter prospects can be seen in the cooperation between the two countries and the two armed forces.
Then, both sides cordially discussed exchange of trainees between the two armed forces, sports and medical cooperation, exchange of goodwill visits, prospects for improving economic, trade and tourism affairs through close contacts between the citizens of the two countries, the abilities of the Myanmar and Nepalese armed forces to bring honour to their countries by maintaining their sovereignty and protecting lives and property of their peoples, Myanmar’s nurturing of women officers and soldiers in promoting woman role while Nepal is also promoting woman role, Tatmadaw members’ earnest efforts for Myanmar’s democratic reform and political stability, greater effort to strengthen the friendship between the two armed forces and bilateral cooperation between the two countries and the success of the Nepalese President’s visit as she regards the Tatmadawmen including the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services of Myanmar as her own family or relatives like she takes pride and honour of the Nepalese armed forces.
After the meeting, the Senior General and the President of Nepal exchanged gifts.
