H.E. Mr. Xi Jinping, the President of the People’s Republic of China, met Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing at the ballroom of Horizon Lake View Resort Hotel here this morning to hold talks about the bilateral relations between the two countries and cooperation between the two armed forces.
Also present together with the Senior General were Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win, Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Mya Tun Oo, Commander-in-Chief (Air) General Maung Maung Kyaw and senior military officers.The Chinese President was accompanied by Mr. Ding Xuexiang, director of the General Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Mr. Chen Hai and officials.
The Chinese President said he was glad to meet the Senior General again. His visit is assumed to be successful. He arrived in Myanmar as the first President of the People’s Republic of China in 19 years as well as for the first time to visit in his presidential term. His first visit to Myanmar in earlier 2020 is indicative of the strong relations between China andMyanmar. He said he is willing to push for further strengthening of the Paukphaw relations and amity between the two countries while speeding up the establishment of a community with a shared future and bilateral cooperation. It is crucial for cooperation between the peoples of the two countries and cooperation between the two militaries to improve the relations between China and Myanmar. Collaboration between the two armed forces is improving with momentum. Closer cooperation will contribute to the community with a shared future and the greater interests of the two peoples.
For his part, the Senior General said the Chinese President’s first visit to Myanmar in his presidential term as well as in 2020 proves his great attention to the bilateral relationship. As the two countries are good neighbours, friends and strategic partners, their bilateral relations are truly deepening. There must also be deeper cooperation between the two peoples, between the two governments and between the two armed forces which are parts of the countries. The Senior General said he agreed to the Chinese President’s proposal to establish a community with a shared future. Myanmar has had a lot of experiences over nine years of its political reform, and there are both successes and challenges. One important challenge is State peace and stability. As peace is crucial, focus is on the peace efforts. He said he understands and supports the Chinese government’s handling of the ongoing difficulties in accord with the law. He also supports one China policy, the Senior General added. Government leverage plays a key role in ensuring peace and stability of a country and making everything lawful. As such, Myanmar is also trying in various ways for peace and stability. Despite peace efforts, people will have little trust if a country lacks progress. Myanmar is the closest neighbouring country of China in OBOR projects but not the country in a far distance. If these projects are beneficial to Myanmar, the country will have improvement by bringing satisfaction to the people with contribution to peace process. All ethnics need to understand peace process can be undertaken in accord with the law. He requested the President to urge them. Any country cannot accept terror acts and riots opposing the peace and stability of the State. Likewise, armed terrorist attacks against the government cannot be accepted. The Tatmadaw will participate in cooperation measures for creation of a community with a shared future and serving interest of the people as much as it can.
The President said he agreed with and praised for discussions of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services. The two met many times, having mutual understanding and trust. The foreign policy of China emphasizes good friendly relations with neighbouring countries. The Paukphaw relation of China is significant for Myanmar. The relations between the two countries did not change within 70 years’ period. During his goodwill visits to Myanmar while discharging the duty of Vice-President, he saw sanctions against Myanmar. At that time, China supported Myanmar for implementation of the seven-step Road Map. In the future, both countries must realize the reliable relations to each other. Although both countries are practising different political systems, they need to understand the non-uniformity as well as to cooperate in the uniformities. Both countries are practising the Five Principles of Peaceful Co-existence, without accepting interference of other country in internal affairs. In the future, it is important to maintain Paukphaw relations for improvement of bilateral relations and enhance cooperation in border region as both countries are sharing more than 2,000 miles long border.He said he does not accept the acts of any organization to harm Myanmar by utilizing the territory of China. Some accuse China of providing arms and ammunition to armed organizations in Myanmar but China never does so. As these organizations can get them through other ways, China will carefully scrutinize it and solve such problem. The Chinese President pledged to continuously support Myanmar in the international community.
In his discussions, the Senior General said he emphasized advice and discussions of the Chinese President. He thanked the President for understanding difficulties of Myanmar and for his support to the country. The Tatmadaw is discharging duty for defending the State and safeguarding lives and property of the people in accordance with the laws, rules and regulations. The Senior General reiterated his deep emphasis on the relations in accordance with the Five Principles of Peaceful Co-existence. Mutual cooperation between the two countries will contribute towards stability.
Today, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing met with President of the People’s Republic of China Mr. Xi Jinping for the sixth time. At all meetings, they focused on the issues on enhancement of friendly cooperation between the two countries and the two armed forces.
