Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing received H.E. Mr. Chen Hai, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Myanmar, at the parlour of Bayintnaung Villa here this morning.
Also present together with the Senior General were Lt-Gen Ye Win Oo and senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army). The Chinese Ambassador was accompanied by Military Attaché Senior Colonel Xiong Shaowei and officials. The Chinese Ambassador said he attended a ceremony this morning to donate medical equipment by Myanmar Tatmadaw for the successof prevention, treatment and control of the coronavirus in China, expressing thanks for the donation.
In his discussion, the Senior General said he had felt sorry since he heard the coronavirus outbreak in China. As the two countries are close neighbours, they must help and support each other. The amount of medical equipment donated today is not very large, but it aims to help the Chinese people to a certain degree for protecting their lives. The Senior General said he was glad to help during such a difficult time. Myanmar as well as its Tatmadaw is paying attention to coronavirus prevention measures. It is found that China was able to speedily and effectively take coronavirus prevention, treatment and control measures. In treatment sector, hospital and temporary hospitals could be built in a short time. Doctors, military medical doctors and all the citizens are making collaborative efforts in a manner of national cause. Myanmar will help as much as it could and hopes that the situation will return to normal as quickly as possible.
The Chinese Ambassador said the two countries are neighbours sharing land, water and air territories. As there could be impact, China is cooperating with Myanmar in taking preventive measures. Tatmadaw’s donation of medical equipment for the Chinese people indicates the meaning of being a China-Myanmar community with a shared future. This can also contribute a lot to the prevention and control measures. Tatmadaw will gain merits from the donations as the saying goes “Saving one’s life is greater blessing than building a pagoda.” Though good results could be achieved in containing the virus thanks to cooperation with the public in China, challenges remain. For the first time in China, President Mr. Xi Jinping made a video conference with over 170,000 officials as far-reaching as to district-level officials across the country, and gave instructions to control the virus, and all are working in unity in a manner similar to people’s militia operations. There have been many heroes who sacrificed their lives. Strict measures are being taken to prohibit wildlife trading in order to prevent the spread of virus. Though the outbreak has negatively affected the country in social and economic aspects, China believes that it would be able to restore normalcy in shortest length of time. Coronavirus can barely spread in high temperatures, which is a blessing for Myanmar. He said he wished good health for all the people of Myanmar.
The two sides exchanged frank views on cooperation between two countries including the agreements reached during Chinese President Mr. Xi Jinping’s visit to Myanmar, potential for promotion of cooperation between two armed forces,
potential for building a shared community, and potential to accelerate cooperation the people of two countries, China’s support for Myanmar in Rakhine issue, and internal peace process.
After the meeting, the Senior General, the Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar and those present at the meeting posed for a documentary photo.
