The Tatmadaw is contributing to prevention, control and treatment of COVID-19 disease. During the period, collective blood donations are performed at specialty hospitals, general hospitals, district hospitals, township hospitals, station hospitals and rural health centres in respective military command areas not to cause blood needs.
This morning, officers and other ranks from Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) in Yangon Command area collectively donated blood at the National Blood Centre (Yangon) of the Ministry of Health and Sports in Latha Township of Yangon Region. They were encouraged by Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and senior military officers.
Accompanied by Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Admiral Tin Aung San, Commander-in-Chief (Air) General Maung Maung Kyaw, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army), the commander of Yangon Command and party, the Senior General arrived at the National Blood Centre (Yangon) where they were welcomed by Deputy Director General Dr Daw Thida Aung of the National Blood Centre (Yangon) of the Ministry of Health and Sports and party.
The Senior General viewed round blood donation of the officers and other ranks of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army, Navy and Air) from Yangon Command area and blood donor people and encouraged them. Dr Daw Thida Aung reported to the Senior General on salient points on donation of blood.
Afterwards, the Senior General and senior military officers together with the officers and other ranks of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army, Navy and Air) fromYangon Command area and blood donor people donated blood at the National Blood Centre (Yangon).
After donating blood, the Senior General and party cordially greeted officers, other ranks and blood donor people and presented foodstuffs.
The Senior General presented foodstuffs donated by families of the Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) to Deputy Director General Dr Daw Thida Aung. The Senior General accepted certificate of honour for collective donation of blood to officers and other ranks of the Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) presented by Deputy Director General Dr Daw Thida Aung.
The National Blood Centre (Yan-gon) was opened in the compound of Yangon General Hospital in January 2003 with the aim of timely providing sufficient, safe and effective treatment to those who need blood. The centre was moved to the present site at the corner of Bogyoke Street and Shwedagon Pagoda Road in Latha Township in 2010. Since its establishment, the centre has been headed as in-charge by Dr Daw Thida Aung. The centre is supplying blood needs of 16 government hospitals in Yangon Region. Currently, the centre needs some 8,000 blood donors per month but about 6,000 people donate blood on a monthly basis. As such, it needs about 2,000 more blood donors per month. Officers and other ranks from Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) have donated blood at the National Blood Centre (Yangon) for nine times including the present time.
