Maha Nayaka of Wizzotayon Pariyatti school at Ward 9, Mayangon Township,Yangon Region, State Ovadacarira Shwekyin Nikaya Dipati Ukkattha Dhammasenapati Pannarasama Sangha Raja of Shwekyin Sayadaw Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhammajotika Bhaddanata Vijjota Mahathe (Age 93,Wasa 73) passed away on Sunday, the 4th waning of Taboung 1383 ME (20 March, 2022), at 2.12 am.
Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, accompanied by his wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, SAC member Lt-Gen Moe Myint Tun, Secretary Lt-Gen Aung Lin Dway, Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture U Ko Ko, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Admiral Moe Aung, Commander-in-Chief (Air) General Tun Aung, senior military officers of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, the Yangon Command commander and officials, paid respects to the remains of the Sayadaw.
The Senior General and wife and party paid respects to Chancellor of Sitagu World’s Buddhist Universities and Sitagu Hospitals Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhammajotika Agga Maha Pandita Maha Dhammakathika Bahujanahitadhara Joint Shwekyin Sangha Raja Sitagu Sayadaw Bhaddanta Nyanisara and presented donations to the Sayadaw. The Senior General donated Ks -10 million for successful holding of the cremation ceremony through an official.
The Senior General and party paid respects to the remains of the Sayadaw and looked into the requirements of the chief minister and command commander in holding the funeral rites.
Sitagu Sayadaw delivered a sermon and the merits gained were shared. The Senior General signed the visitor’s book.
The Shwekyin Nikaya Dipati Chairman Sayadaw was born to U Nu and Daw Htwar in Sarsin Ward in Mudon, Mon State on 7 Waxing, Wednesday, of Tabaung in 1291 ME. The future Sayadaw was ordained as novice by both parents under the auspices of Kyaukwaing Sartintaik Sayadaw Bhaddanta Javana in Mudon in 1304 ME and the future Sayadaw was ordained as monk by U Pe Thein and Daw Kyin Yan of Yangon at the Silavi Ordination Hall in Kanthar New Monastery in Bahan Township in 1311 ME. The venerable Sayadaw tried hard to learn pariyatti literature and won Siripavara Dhammarcariya Siromani title and Dip. BD degree. The Sayadaw taught Buddhist treatises to monks and novices at Vujotaryon Sarthintaik in Mayangon Township, compiled Buddhist treatises and renovated religious edifices while serving as the Dhammarcariya Sayadaw of the Trustees Board of the Sacred Tooth Relic Pagoda and the Thiri Mingalar Gaba Aye Pagoda and Sangha Organizations at various levels including the chairman of township Sangha Nayaka Committee (Shwekyin), State Vinaya Sayadaw and State Ovadacariya Sayadaw. Due to the contribution to Buddhism made by the Sayadaw with great enthusiasm, the government conferred the Abhidhaja Maharathaguru title in 1379 ME and the Abhidhaja Mahasaddhama Jotika title in 1382 ME on the Sayadaw. The Sayadaw, while serving the interest of the Sasana, passed away at the age of 93 and Wasa 73 in religious order at 2.12 am on Sunday, 4th Waning of Taboung in 1383 ME (20 March 2022) and the funeral rite of the Sayadaw will be held in accordance with COVID-19 restrictions at 1 pm on 22 March, Tuesday.
