Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, accompanied by Joint Secretary Lt-Gen Ye Win Oo and ember Admiral Tin Aung San of the SAC, union ministers, Chief Minister U Soe Thein of Yangon Region, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in -Chief, Yangon Command Commander Maj-Gen Nyunt Win Swe, the mayor and officials, inspected fish breeding tasks in Shwe Muyin in Twantay Township and Fisheries Institute (Twantay) this morning.
First, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein and Chairman of Myanmar Economic Holding Public Company Ltd Lt-Gen San Oo and the Yangon Command Commander reported to the Senior General on fish breeding tasks of Yangon Command and the Myanmar Economic Holding Public Company Ltd, distribution fish to defence service personnel, war veterans, departmental personnel and consumers at reasonable prices, production of animal feed including fishery feed of the factory of Yangon Command Command and construction of the Kin Village-Khayanwa-Yetwingone-Kwinpauk concrete road to distribute fish products smoothly into the market.
After hearing the reports, Senior General said manufacturing livestock products by establishing agriculture and livestock breeding zones in Yangon Region aims at contributing to sufficiency of meat, fish and vegetables in Yangon Region and enabling the public to consume the products at reasonable prices. Fish breeding tasks are being carried out in Shwe Muyin aims at fulfilling the daily fish need of Yangon Region, which has a population of 9 million and the demand exceeds the supply if a Yangonite consumes five ticals of fish every day. It is beneficial to produce enough fish in Yangon region rather than importing fish from Ayeyawady and other region to meet the demand and to distribute enough fish to local residents at reasonable prices. Therefore, it is necessary to produce more fish at lower costs. If production costs are low, it is beneficial for the public, who will be able to consume fish nutrients, as well as for the region where fish breeding tasks are carried out.
To do so, it is necessary to utilize the livestock breeding land beneficially, to feed fish sufficiently to boost production and to replenish fingerling stocks in breeding ponds. Officials from the regional government are required to cooperate with relevant ministry officials to acquire appropriate fish species.
The government is ready to provide other necessary assistance.
Production of animal feed, which is included in the small and medium enterprise, must be encouraged and animal feed must be produced from raw materials available in the region. It is important to cooperate with pharmaceutical factories to acquire necessary animal medicines.
Transportation is vital to distribute livestock products to the market immediately and cheaply. Although livestock products can be manufactured at low costs, if transportation routes are long and difficult, costs will be higher. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct surveys on production routes by making field visits properly. Transportation routes must be actually beneficial for the region and production. It is important to distribute fish from Shwe Muyin after processing by using cold storage vehicles. Fish breeding tasks must be systematic and contribute to regional residents.
Then, the Senior General and party inspected the breeding of fish in ponds and gave necessary instructions.
Afterwards, the Senior General and party continued to the Fisheries Institute (Twantay) of the Fisheries Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Live-stock and Irrigation and met with instructors and students.
Firstly, Director-General of Fisheries Department U Wai Lin Maung reported on subject wise training courses being conducted theoretically and practically, brief history of Institute of Fisheries (Twantay), construction of building, assistance for the students by the State, further study plan after the courses, matters on faculty members and personnel of the institute, excursion trips of students and sports activities, and the need for sustainable development of the institute. Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Min Naung presented an additional report.
Then, the Senior General delivered a speech. In his speech, he said our nation is rich in rivers, creeks and lakes and owns a long coastline. As there are many sites to operate fish farming in the nation, a plan was made to open an institute on fisheries. As fish is of much support to food security, it is necessary to make research work in order to ensure adequate fish through systematic farming. Research is needed for development of freshwater prawn and seawater prawn farming.
It is necessary to have good human resources to achieve success in the fish and prawn livestock industry. I am proud of learning that experts will be born from this institute. To further study advanced academic subjects, efforts will be made to be able to open a university and colleges. In the com-ing academic year, courses on agriculture, livestock, techno-logy and mechanism will be conducted at high schools in 50 districts across the country. Outstanding students from those courses could continue to study advanced subjects.
Depending on education, this livestock institute will be upgraded to a college. Human resources needed for the nation could be produced from this institute. Faculty members are to systematically teach the students and it will be very beneficial. After the courses, the students are to join businesses agreed with the subjects learned at the institute. Being a right man in the right place is of much help to the development of the nation. When being at work, subjects learned should be systematically applied to ensure better business knowledge. It is necessary for students to learn English as an assistance to learn subjects.
Students are not only to learn subjects but to make self-studies for better development of knowledge. It is necessary to do physical exercises in free time for better health. On the other hand, students need to stay away from liquor, cigarettes, betel, and narcotic drugs. If self control is exercised to stay disciplined with a teaching of religion, they will become polite, good youths.
Afterwards, the Senior General presented teaching and learning aids and cash assistance for the students through Daw Moe Thuzar Maung, principal of the institute.
Later, the Senior General and party took a tour of the Fisheries Institute (Twantay) and gave necessary instructions to officials.
The Fisheries Institute (Twan-tay) was launched on December 12, 2022 as the first and ever institute on fisheries with the guidance by the Chairman of State Administration Council and Prime Minister to ensure development of fishery techno-logy and have job opportunities. The institute now has 18 male students and 23 female students for the first year course. Depending on the result of academic years, there is a plan to upgrade it to a college.
