Final of Inter-University football tournament for academic year 2023-2024 of the Ministry of Education and prize-presentation ceremony were held at Wunna Theikdi Stadium here this evening, attended by Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.
Also present were SAC Secretary Lt-Gen Aung Lin Dway, SAC Joint Secretary Lt-Gen Ye Win Oo, SAC members, union level officials, union ministers, the Nay Pyi Taw Council chair, senior military officers, deputy ministers, Nay Pyi Taw Council members, directors general, rectors, deputy directors general, tournament organizing committee members, officials, managers coaches and athletes of the teams, university and basic education school students, teachers, and sports fans.
The Senior General and attendees watched the final match between Mawlamyine zone team and Myitkyina zone team.
The two finalists put pressure on each other in the first half that ended in a goal-less draw.
The second half also was a goal-less high pre-sure match.
The two teams could not produce any goals in the 30-minute extra time and in the penalty shootout, Mawlamyine zone won over the opponent with a 5:3 result.
At the prize-presentation ceremony, best goalkeeper award, best defender award, best midfielder award, best striker award, top scorer award, and player of the tournament award and honorary cash awards were presented to the winners by SAC members, Dr Hmu Htan, Poe Reh Aung Thein, Daw Dwe Bu, U Wunna Maung Lwin, Lt-Gen Nyo Saw and Lt-Gen Yar Pyae.
SAC member Admiral Tin Aung San presented medals and honorary cash awards to third-prize winner Pathein zone team, and SAC Joint Secretary Lt-Gen Ye Win Oo, second-prize winner Myitkyina zone team.
SAC Secretary Lt-Gen Aung Lin Dway presented medals to trophy-winner Mawlamyine zone team.
Afterwards, Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing presented honorary cash awards and championship trophy to Mawlamyine zone team.
After the ceremony, the Senior General and party cordially greeted the athletes.
