In his address, the Senior General said the foundation of national development is the country’s richness in qualified human resources. Hence, the government is striving to build a prosperous future with high academic and technological knowledge. It is an honor for Naypyitaw State Academy, set up with the aim of playing the leading role in bringing about educated persons, for organizing the congress, the torchlight of arts and sciences, for three days starting from this day.
As the current age is praised as the “Age of Knowledge”, the world has accepted “knowledge” as the most valuable asset.
A quotation “a well-educated person will be prestigious in all situations” of Shin Maha Rathasara, a famous poet of Inwa period, is true till now. In any age the country and race will be able to stand tall in the world only if the education level is high among the citizens.
Knowledge is the foundation of progress. So, promotion of the comprehensive education sector is important as it can produce human resources imbued with intelligence, intellectual knowledge and intrinsic qualification in building a modern Union based on disciplined democracy and federalism.
Research conferences and paper reading sessions will be much supportive of the education promotion program.
Research is the work of finding a new conclusion, so, it normally means “to discover the cost and effect”. As the wise can know every cost and effect, researchers do not need to witness every detail; they can find the correct conclusions and results through research by applying their experience, vision and careful thoughts.
Research is a highly creative activity. Hence, a quality research program can create new products, generate new jobs, set up new factories, reduce production cost, and initiate new technologies and creations.
So, it can be very beneficial to the socio-economic development of a country.
As research is set as the lifeblood of universities, teachers and students who are doing research may become outstanding in the subject. New findings may be followed by innovations, and the process will surely bring about intellectuals and intelligentsia that will serve the community. In this regard, the State is allowing more and more funds for research activities and laboratories of universities annually, and opening new research centers.
The government is implementing two national visions: prosperity of the State and food security.
While encouraging micro-, small- and medium-sized enterprises and urging functioning the one region-one product scheme, the government is providing assistance for operating the ago-based industries via manufacturing of value-added products. Strong research process of universities can support accomplishment of two national visions. Research tasks are being carried out by individuals as well as groups. If joint researches are conducted by those from relevant subjects or domestic universities or domestic universities with foreign universities, valuable research findings will come out.
Moreover, it is necessary to arrange technology transfer and knowledge sharing of findings from researches of universities for manufacturing of new products in order to boom the State economy in a short time, and those universities will be reliable for the State.
The Myanmar Academy of Arts and Science has set an aim to conduct researches beneficial for the State and give guidelines for research tasks. The academy formed by the government in August 1999 has been implementing the adopted plans.
Since 2001, the academy has been holding the talk shows, paper-reading sessions and conferences on arts, science and social subjects annually.
In 2023, the 23rd Arts and Science Research Conference will be held by the Ministry of Education at the national level at the Naypyitaw State Academy from 25 to 27 January.
As an honor able measure at the conference, researchers who compile theses for doctoral degrees at six universities from the Ministry of Education including the Defence Services Academy across the nation will read 314 research papers at the conference. So, it is satisfactory that faculty members and university students are very interested in research process.
In addition to the research papers, universities from the Ministry of Education showcase some 60 research posters as well as more than 20 research booths. Visitors will have the chance to view round the innovation and research findings of researchers from various subjects of universities and to give constructive suggestions. So, both sides will have the chance to exchange knowledge and experiences.
Prizes will be presented to researchers for their best research award and the best papers awards in relevant subjects at the conference, and the qualified research papers from the conference will be collected at the research journals.
Myanmar’s universities possess relevant assets depending on their locations. For example, universities located in western and southern parts of the nation possess resources of water, land, fishery and others as well as long coastal areas with large rainfalls.
These universities can do researches on fish, shrimp, pearl production and offshore oil and natural gas for benefiting the regions and turning out graduates and researchers for working at these regions. Likewise, universities across the nation need to produce new technologies and expertise’s from researches so as to develop the State and improve socioeconomic life of the people.
In conclusion, the Senior General stressed the need for researchers who will submit papers to the conference, faculty members and students to effectively carry out applied researches for relevant subjects, regions and the State and apply their research findings in nation building tasks.
