The opening ceremony of the 59th Myanma Gems Emporium was held at the Maniradana Jade Hall in Nay Pyi Taw this morning and Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing attended the ceremony.
Also present together with the Senior General were Joint Secretary Lt-Gen Ye Win Oo and members General Mya Tun Oo, General Maung Maung Aye, Lt-Gen Yar Pyae, Daw Dwe Bu, Mahn Nyein Maung and U Shwe Kyein of the SAC, union ministers and union leve officials, the chairman of the Nay Pyi Taw Council, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, the commander of the Nay Pyi Taw Command, departmental officials, responsible officials from Myanmar Gems Entrepreneurs Association, guests and local and foreign gems entrepreneurs.
First, the Senior General and attendees watched the documentary video clip featuring production and sales of Myanmar pearls, production of gems and jewelries and preparations for the 59th Myanma Gems Emporium (2024).
Then, the Senior General and attendees inspected the jade, gems and pearl lots displayed for sales at the hall and the Senior General gave necessary instructions on reports of officials.
Afterward, the Senior General and party viewed the sale booths of private finished gems and jewelries and inspected the raw jade lots displayed outside the hall.
Myanma Gems Emporiums have been held since 1964 with the aim of earning foreign exchange for the country and contributing to the economic interests of citizens. A total of 400 pearl lots, 160 gems lots and 4,550 jade lots will be sold to local and foreign gems entrepreneurs in accordance with the rules and regulations through the open tender system. The floor prices of pearl, jade and gems lots in group A and B are set in US dollar while the floor prices of jade lots in group C are set in MMK. Foreign gems entrepreneurs who want to buy pearl, jade and gems lots in groups A and B are required to make advance payments in US dollar or equivalent sums in Euro, Yuan and Baht. Local gems entrepreneurs can make advance payments in MMK. Advance payments for jade lots in group C, which are allowed for local entrepreneurs, can be made in MMK.
Local and foreign entrepreneurs can make payments for jade lots in group A in US$ or equivalent sums in Euro, Thai Baht or Yuan. Payments for pearl, gems and jade lots in group B can be made in US$ or equivalent sums in Euro, Baht and Yuan. As for local merchants, payments can be made in US$ or equivalent sums in MMK. Gems will be sold to local and foreign entrepreneurs in accordance with the rules and regulations of the open tender system. The emporium will last from 3 to 12 May.
