Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, accompanied by his entourage, this afternoon, inspected San Sao Tun Hospital in Taunggyi, Shan State (South), and met with health staff.
On arrival at the hospital, the Senior General and party were welcomed by medical superintendent Dr Win Maw Oo, professors, specialists and nurses. The Senior General comforted local people receiving medical treatment at the emergency ward, asked after their health conditions and comforted them with gifts of foodstuffs.
At the meeting hall of the hospital, the medical superintendent reported on brief history of the hospital, construction of buildings and new patient wards, process of providing cancer treatment, monthly medical treatment process, undertakings of special care treatment, X-ray process, radiation treatment, and more requirements for providing cancer treatment.
In his response, the Senior General pledged to provide necessary machinery for the hospital. It is necessary to systematically conduct treatment with the use of machinery. Necessary hospitals will be upgraded and extended among other hospitals in Shan State, depending on population of the hospital area. It is necessary to consider the sites for extended construction of the hospital. Housings for health staff must be built at hospitals. Necessary specialists will be appointed for hospitals.
The Senior General fulfilled the requirements of the hospital. Speaking on the occasion, the Senior General noted that people need to be healthy. Only when they are healthy will they work. They have sound foundations for health conditions since their childhood. Hence, they need to take care of food supply.
The Senior General urged officials to systematically manage health sector. Efforts must be made for hospitals to be reliable for the people. Health staff have systematic measures in relations and treatments for the patients. As hospital is a venue to provide healthcare services to the people, the facility must be clean and tidy with systematic waste process.
Health staff must be start as they are providing healthcare services to the people. They have to improve themselves to attract reliance of patients. They have to give proper healthcare services to the people. Arrangements must be made for giving health food supplies to patients.
The government is fulfilling needs as much as possible to improve health sector and arranges convenience of health staff for their accommodation. Staff must serve duty with loyalty to the State and they have to strive for catching reliance of the people.
The Senior General viewed round the hospital buildings, machinery and relevant record books and gave guidance to officials to systematically keep records and documentaries.
Sao San Tun Hospital was built through economic and expertise cooperation of the Soviet Union by Commander Brig-Gen Maung Lwin (BSc Engineering) of Rehabilitation Brigade No 1 in 1957. It aimed to ensure Russia-Myanmar friendly ties.
Construction of all buildings cost Ks-4 million. In June 1961, the hospital was commissioned into service. The first-ever medical superintendent of the hospital was Dr Sao Naw Kham and it was only one general hospital in Shan State. Since its establishment, the hospital has accommodated 20 hospitals.
On 16 December 2015, the hospital was upgraded to the general hospital (500-bed).
