SAC Chairman Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing delivers speech at the ceremony to mark 76th  Anniversary of International Human Rights Day

Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing delivered a speech at the ceremony to mark the 76th Anniversary of International Human Rights Day at the Myanmar International Convention Centre I in Nay Pyi Taw this morning.

Also present at the ceremony were Council Joint Secretary General Ye Win Oo, council members, union-level dignitaries, Union ministers, the Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman, senior Tatmadaw officers, the commander of Nay Pyi Taw Command, deputy ministers, officials of Myanmar National Human Rights Commission, civil society organizations, guests and students.

In his speech, the Senior General said that the 10 December is a day when the Universal Declaration of Human Rights issued by the UN General Assembly and it turns 76 years. Now, the International Human Rights Day turns 76 years.

Myanmar voted for the Universal Declaration of Human Rights to seek approval on 10 December 1948 when Myanmar has regained independence.

Such a declaration had been schemed since 1946 and two years later, the declaration was released on 10 December 1948.

Myanmar supported the declaration and mentioned its constitution with the fundamental rights and duties of citizens. It can be seen that important human rights norms were inserted into the declaration. The national anthem of Myanmar shows norms of human rights such as justice, liberty and equality.

These show the evidences for recognizing the declaration.

People need to follow and enjoy human rights among them to develop a country. So, the government joined the international human rights treaties and participate in the Universal Periodic Review-UPR.

Moreover, the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission Law was enacted in 2014 to further promote protection of the human rights of Myanmar citizens and the commission was established. The commission is implementing missions and visions in order to emerge a society for enhancement of human rights and protection.

The government is striving for national people residing in Myanmar to have equal term of rights and ensure national unity.

In this regard, utmost efforts are being made to restore internal peace as the actual essence of the State. Likewise, emphasis is being placed on successfully holding a free and fair multiparty democratic general election in order to emerge a Union based on democracy and federalism the entire people aspire to.

As the multi-party democratic path the entire people aspire to will be implemented in the future without fail, a free and fair multiparty democratic general election will be held. To  do so, efforts will be made for ensuring peace and stability, rule of law and security measures.

Attempts to deteriorate peace and stability in the country can be defined as destroying liberty and human rights of the entire national people. Armed terrorism violate human rights of ethnic people. Hence, all entire people are urged to fight against destructive acts through unity in order to enjoy equal rights and peace and stability.

The theme for the 76th Anniversary of the International Human Rights Day 2024 is Our rights, Our Future and Right Now. By abiding by human rights under disciplines, it is necessary to shape a better future. Nowadays, the globe faces various difficulties including instability and conflicts. Systematic compliance to the human rights will support to be able to overcome these challenges and to build a peaceful and prosperous society with rule of law. Inequality and discrimination are different from human rights norms.

It is necessary to rebut and remove hate speech, fake news and fabricated news which can harm peace and stability as well as rule of law while initiating correct and fair and  systematic rights. If so, human rights will be a basic strength for the world with peace and equality.

The government will implement five-point Roadmap and nine objectives for emergence of a peaceful, modern, developed, disciplined, democratic country.

Entire people have to join hands with the government for shaping a peaceful, socioeconomic developed country with high human rights norms.

Chairman of Myanmar National Human Rights Commission U Paw Lwin Sein reported on work progress of the commission while Vice Chair Dr Nanda Hmun read the message of the UN Secretary-General.

The Senior General and dignitaries watched a video clip on the 76th Anniversary of International Human Rights Day.

The Senior General accepted a commemorative medal to mark the human rights day presented by the commission chairman.

Artistes from the Fine Arts Department under the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture presented a song of the human rights commission with performances.

The Senior General and dignitaries viewed round the documentary photos on enhancement of human rights and awareness campaign of the commission.
