Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing holds talks with Prime Minister of Nepal Rt. Hon. Mr. K P Sharma Oli

Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, who is in Thailand to attend the BIMSTEC meeting hosted by the country, held talks with Prime Minister of Nepal Rt. Hon. Mr. K P Sharma Oli at Shangri La Hotel in Bangkok this evening at local time.

During the talks, the Nepalese Prime Minister expressed his and the people of Nepal’s sympathy for Myanmar that was hit by a deadly earthquake recently and the sorrows they shared with Myanmar people.

Nepal has already sent rescue and relief teams including medical teams. In 2015, an earthquake in Nepal killed over 9,000 people and injured over 23,000.

The country had to carry out rehabilitation undertakings as the earthquake destroyed many buildings. Nepal and Myanmar are friendly countries and friendship and cooperation between the two will be further enhanced.

In his discussions, the Senior General expressed thanks to Nepal for the emergency assistance.

The two are friendly countries since yore and Gurkhas, Nepalese descendants, are serving in the Tatmadaw. Moreover, many Nepalese have been living in amity with Myanmar since the olden times.

Although the two are not so close, their bonds of friendship are strong.

Hence, cooperation between the two should be promoted.

Tatmadaw sent relief aid to Nepal in time during the time it was struck by an earthquake and the gratitude goes to Nepal for providing help to Myanmar in time. As Nepal already has experience in restoration undertakings, the Senior General made a request to share its experience.

Afterwards, views on further promotion of bilateral friendship and cooperation, enhancement of cooperation in multiple sectors including trade, investment and tourism, Myanmar’s preparations to hold a free and fair multiparty democracy general election in the coming December, Myanmar and Nepal’s outstanding cooperation on the international stage, and promotion of cooperation among the member countries through the 6th BIMSTEC meeting were cordially exchanged.

Also present at the meeting together with the Senior General were SAC Joint Secretary General Ye Win Oo, union ministers U Than Swe, Admiral Moe Aung, and senior officials of the delegation.

The Nepalese PM was accompanied by the deputy prime minister and government officials.

After the talks, the Senior General and Nepalese PM exchanged commemorative gifts and cordially greeted the attendees of both countries.
