Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing inspected Union Ministry office buildings in Nay Pyi Taw that were damaged by the Mandalay earthquake. The inspection was conducted this morning and evening, with the SAC Vice Chairman Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win, SAC Secretary General Aung Lin Dway, Joint Secretary General Ye Win Oo, Union Ministers, the Chairman of the Nay Pyi Taw Council, and other officials in attendance.
During the inspection, the Senior General and party assessed the damage at the Union Supreme Court office building, the Ministry of Labour office building, the collapsed perimeter wall at the Ministry of Legal Affairs, the Ministry of Planning and Finance office building, Union Civil Service Board office building, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office building, and the Ministry of Labour and Social Security Board headquarters. They also reviewedtemporary housing arrangements for displaced staff.
Union-level officials and ministers provided updates on the extent of structural damage, the operation of temporary offices to maintain government functions, and the measures taken to provide shelter for affected employees and their families.
In response, the Senior General emphasized the need for urgent relocation of important documents, equipment, and movable assets from the damaged buildings. He instructed that reconstruction efforts prioritize longterm durability, incorporating earthquake-resistant designs with input from seismologists and construction experts. He further recommended that future buildings use segmented designs rather than large single structures to improve earthquake resilience. Utility systems such as water and electricity should be carefully integrated into reconstruction plans from the beginning. Regarding temporary housing for displaced staff, the Senior General stressed the importance of systematic organization, ensuring adequate drinking water, running water, and food supplies. He assured that the government would oversee all necessary support and instructed officials to promptly address any additional needs.
