Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing accorded a guard-of-honour welcome to Chief of Army Staff of the Nepal Army General Rajendra Chhetri in front of Zeyathiri Villa here this morning.
Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and General Rajendra Chhetri took the salute of the Guard of Honour and inspected it, followed by the bilateral introduction of senior military offi cers between the two sides.
Also present at the ceremony together with the Senior General were Deputy Commander- in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in- Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win, Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Mya Tun Oo, Commander-in- Chief (Air) General Maung Maung Kyaw, senior military offi cers of the Offi ce of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) and the commander of Nay Pyi Taw Command. The Nepalese General was accompanied by Ambassador of Nepal to Myanmar H.E. Mr. Bhim K. Udas and senior military officers of the Nepal Army.
After signing the visitor’s book, the Nepalese General held talks with the Senior General. At the meeting, the Senior General said it is a historic visit of Myanmar-Nepal relations and the bilateral military relations and a step towards cementing friendly ties between the two countries. The Senior General expressed thanks for the best hospitality showed by the hosts during the visit of the Tatmadaw goodwill delegation led by him to Nepal, vowing continued efforts for further promotion of country-to-country and military-to-military relations.
The Nepalese General thanked the Senior General for the invitation for the current goodwill visit. It is the first goodwill visit of a chief of army staff of the Nepal Army, he said, expressing belief that bilateral goodwill visits will further enhance friendly relations between the two countries and the two armed forces. He also expressed thanks for the cordial and warm welcome he received. They then cordially discussed strengthening of the relations between the two armed forces, trade promotion, exchange of trainees for military training and military medical science, cooperation in prevention of natural disasters and other matters, exchange of cultural troupes and sports contingents, Tatmadawmen’s attending of UN peacekeeping training school in Nepal, exchange of trainees for language courses, Tatmadaw’s participation in eternal peace efforts and strengthening of the relations and cooperation between the two armed forces.
After the meeting, the Senior General and General Rajendra Chhetri exchanged gifts and posed for a documentary photo together with those present. Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla hosted a lunch in honour of the visiting Nepalese delegation led by General Rajendra Chhetri. First, the military band played the national anthems of the two countries. The Senior General extended greetings and General Rajendra Chhetri spoke words of thanks. They then enjoyed lunch together with those present. Before and during the lunch, Myawady music band under the Directorate of Public Relations and Psychological Warfare and Nepalese Gawrakha cultural troupe in Pyin OoLwin gave their performances with songs and dances of the two countries.
After the lunch, the Senior General and General Rajendra Chhetri exchanged gifts. Later, gifts and bouquets were presented to the entertainment troupes and they had a documentary photo taken.
