Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, who was on a goodwill tour to Lao People’s Democratic Republic at the invitation of Minister of National Defence of Laos Lieutenant General Chansamone CHANYALATH, accompanied by wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, Lt-Gen Than Tun Oo and senior military officers of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army),Myanmar Ambassador to Laos U Ko Ko Naing and Myanmar Military Attaché (Army,Navy and Air) Col Kyaw Kyaw Min, visited ancient and historic Wat Phu Temple in Champasak Province on 12 October evening.
First, the Tatmadaw goodwill delegation led by the Senior General and wife arrived at the Wat Phu Temple, and were welcomed and conducted round it by officials. Afterwards,the Senior General and wife and delegation paid homage to the Buddha Image in the temple and offered incense sticks. Later, the Senior General and delegation posed for group documentary photo.
The Wat Phu Temple is included in the UNESCO’s World Heritage List. It is located in the east of Phou Kauo Mountain on the bank of Mekong River in Champasak Province.According to archaeologists, the temple was built with oldest architectural designs and structural designs during the reign of Khmer Kings between 11th and 14th centuries.Nowadays, the temple has become the symbol of the flourishing of Theravada Buddhism.
The Myanmar Tatmadaw goodwill delegation led by the Senior General and wife this afternoon arrived at Khone Phapheng waterfall in Pak Sé District of Champasak Province where they were welcomed by the district administrator and officials.

The Senior General and party viewed more than 2,000 years old Manikhot tree where officials explained facts about the tree.
Khone Phapheng waterfall, the largest in Southeast Asia, is located on Mekong River near the border of Laos and Cambodia in Pak Sé District of Champasak Province in Laos. There are more than 4,000 islands in the waterfall region called Siphan Don in dialectal language. The largest waterfall is 69 feet high. Long-lasting Manikhot tree thrived at the waterfall. After falling down in 2011, the tree has been kept for public observation. According to the tests of international archaeologists, Manikhot tree was more than 2,000 years old.
